Blok is an English language online magazine focusing on developments in Central European art, culture and politics. Editors and contributors from the dozen-or-so countries sharing common historic borders stretching from the Baltic to the Adriatic Seas, and in between the borders of Germany and Russia, Blok offers hands-on, critical and opinionated views on developments in culture from across the region. To us, however, Central European art is a state of mind, a phenomenon which may just as well manifest in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Warsaw, Toronto, Ljubljana, London, Cluj, Kyiv, Prague or Moscow. Our aim is to give greater voice to art from the region illuminating the diversity of its established currents, cultures and languages.

Blok is founded by a team of editors with links to the Polish language Magazyn SzumAs an independent non-profit platform, Blok is made up of contributors from writers and curators across Central Europe, established as a forum for discerning and independent discourse on contemporary art that is shaping Central Europe, while helping to streamline international access for dedicated art professionals and interested publics alike.

Blok gives readers access to maps outlining current events and venues from across the region, reviews of recent exhibitions and biennales, interviews with scene-influencing personalities, as well as opinionated journalism on the myriad of issues shaping art from post-Soviet bloc countries.
